26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
It was very interesting to go to the courtrooms last year and see how the process works. It was jury duty selection and I wasn’t chosen, but there were twelve chosen to be the jury. The prosecution team and the defense ultimately decided on who would be on the jury. During the selection process, they asked if anybody knew the defendant personally or anybody on the defense or prosecution team. Those who knew would be excused from jury duty as it would be an unfair trial due to their relationship or knowledge of the matter. Anybody who even knew of those who were going to testify and be on the stand answering questions would also be excused due to the possible conflict of interest.
Jesus says that there is an Advocate who is sent from God and will testify about Jesus. This Spirit will be working to reveal Jesus to people, but the testimony of Jesus can’t only come from God. God cannot write a message about Jesus in the sky or start sending a message to everybody’s brains. Jesus also asked that his followers must testify and share the message about Jesus with others. God removed many of the barriers and have empowered the believers to testify and share the message of God today. You and I all have a story to tell. We all have our own testimony that we can share on how God has worked in our life in some way or another.
