Your Financial Security
Deuteronomy 8:18 (NIV)
18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
You may have gone to college or university. You may have been an apprentice and been taught a trade. Whatever it is you are doing now as a career may not even be related to what you majored in college or university. When I think of what I took in college, it sure isn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. However, God opened up doors and I was able to work at an entry level position and moved up the corporate ladder using some of the knowledge I learned from college. I believe it was God who provided these opportunities to succeed in life. Likewise, when I was let go after a long tenure of over 15 years, I realized that it was God closing the door and I needed to learn to rely on Him for over two years before landing back on my feet in another company.
When it comes to our finances, let’s not be like King Nebuchadnezzar. In Daniel 4:30, he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” He was cursed because he took credit and did not give credit to God. He was prideful and God humbled Nebuchadnezzar and he became like a wild animal. Once his ‘punishment’ was up, he looked up toward heaven and his sanity was restored. He also praised God and honored and glorified him from then on.
If you want God to bless you financially, you need to trust that he is the source of your finances and He is the one who gives you the ability to generate wealth. Do not look towards your employer, government, family or your own savings for security. True security comes from God. It is God who supplies your needs on an on-going basis. He is the source of everything.
Remember to look up towards God in heaven on a daily basis, realizing that everything is from Him and he is our source, physically and spiritually on a daily basis.
