You, Dear Children are from God
1 John 4:4 (NIV)
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
John was writing this to the Disciples of the Church to warn them of the false teachers who preached of a different gospel other than Jesus. There is a different spirit in the world that wants to undermine our faith compared to the one that we received from God, the Holy Spirit. The enemy wants us to doubt the power of God and the truth of the gospel of Jesus.
Our enemy wants us to believe that we are too weak, too poor or do not have the ability to stay faithful to the truth of God. However, John was reminding us that we are children of God and that the Spirit of God within us is stronger than Satan. The key is to rely on God and that we can put our faith into action, not just in our knowledge of the truth. We have the assurance that God is more powerful than our enemy and that should encourage us today.
