You are Not Alone
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
One of the great traits in human is the ability to communicate. We are different from animals as their form of communication is very limited. We can come up with complex ideas and be able to share good news to others or consult with a friend when we are having a bad time. When we don’t have these outlets to belong and to be able to communicate, loneliness will set in. This is an unpleasant emotional response to isolation or lack of companionship. Studies have shown that those who are imprisoned and put into solitary confinement without human interaction started to exhibit signs of mental illness. We do our best when we belong to a family or community.
God had a message through Moses for Joshua that encouraged him to be strong and courageous. God makes a promise that he will never leave nor forsake him. For Joshua, these words must have lifted such a great burden off of his shoulders. The task he has to go up against the enemy and to lead the Israelites into the promised land didn’t seem too hard if the God of the universe is there backing you up. He won’t be doing it alone. This reminds me that I am not alone in this journey. If I surround myself with people who know me and love me, I can succeed in getting through any obstacle.
