Weary and Burdened
Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
It’s Monday and although we may have had a great weekend full of activity and fun, some of us will feel weary and burdened as we start our work week. The financial or health burdens that are on your mind may have temporarily left your mind over the weekend, but it comes back to our mind on Mondays. You may feel weak and tired, but thinking positive is not the only answer. Jesus says that we need to come to him for he knows how to give us rest. The rest isn’t about relaxing on the beach and not having to work for the rest of our lives. We are expected to work and provide for our family and for others.
The rest that Jesus wants to provide is not for our physical bodies, but for our souls. We all have a soul, but when we don’t provide peace for our souls, we can lean toward feeling frazzled and burdened by anything that comes our way. Whether it is health issues, financial debts or your children, we all need to deal with it and place more of our stress and burdens on God and trust in Him as he is the God who knows us best and will always provide. We want to take the reigns and take control, which can just cause us more worry. There is a balance to achieve and we do need to make decisions, but also open the door to allow God to work in our lives without feeling all of the burden and responsibility. Try not to feel that we need to control everything and our burdens will feel lighter.
