We Need a Guide

Psalm 48:14 (NIV)

that this is God,
our God forever and ever.
He will guide us forever.

I recall my family on a bus tour to the US.  We were with a group, so we had a guide to tell us about some of the attractions and with the bus nearby, we couldn’t get lost.  That was the benefit of having a guide and not having to worry about anything.  Likewise when I visited my wife’s family overseas, her family drove us around.  When somebody is familiar with their surroundings, they can guide those who are just visiting.  This is in contrast when we went to Italy during the summer.  We took a wrong turned and the battery on the phone died, so we asked for assistance, but many of the people in that area couldn’t speak English.  Eventually, we had to figure it out on our own after that by tracing our steps back from where we started.

When Jesus walked on the earth, he did everything right and always knew what to do because he did exactly what His Father would do.  The good news is that Jesus calls us to follow him.  He is our guide and knows exactly what we need to do.  He will show us the way from our current destination to our final destination.  We don’t need to wander around, wondering what we should do in this spiritual journey.  I know in life, we hire coaches or go to class to learn so that we can go in the right direction.  An example is when I took some recent golf lessons and the instructor continued to guide and instruct on what I was not doing right and how to correct my mistakes.  God also promises that those who are in Him through Christ, will also have the Holy Spirit to guide us.  God is committed to guiding us, so it’s very important that we do follow Him.  We cannot lose our way if we have the right guide. He will guide us forever.
