We are Unanimous
1 Corinthians 1:10(NIV)
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
I was listening to the news on the radio while driving home and there was discussion of the verdict from the jury in the case where a police officer shot and killed an unarmed man. It is a high profile case and the decision by the jury would determine whether this white police officer would be charged in the voluntary manslaughter in the death of an unarmed black man. In the end, the judge ruled a mistrial because the jury failed to reach a verdict. It is difficult for 12 people to all come to the same decision as they will all have different opinions and were brought up under different belief systems and cultures.
In the Church, the members are also of different cultures and socio-economic upbringings. We will dress differently, like different music and food tastes, etc. However, when it comes to the teachings of Jesus, Paul wants us to be united and unanimous. There is only one truth about Jesus being the Son of God, crucified for our sins and raised from the dead. There cannot be another conflicting story about Jesus as it would contradict the Bible. We are to be united and unanimous in this matter.
