10 “‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, 11 therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth. 12 When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, “Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”
13 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.
After work yesterday as I was driving home, the winds started to strengthen and every few minutes, the radio would interrupt with a tornado warning in an area north of where I was located. It wasn’t going to affect the area where I was going, but the warnings were there. There could be potentially strong thunderstorms with hail and a possible tornado. If I lived in that area and started to see the funnel clouds, I’m sure that it would be much more frightening.
Ezekiel was a prophet with a warning for God’s people. God was pronouncing judgment by using strong rains, hails and violent winds. God is all powerful and we are at his mercy if there ever was flooding or a strong storm. Just a little rain can cause havoc in road traffic, let alone a big storm. When the winds blow, it reminds me to praise God as these are the same winds he used to part the Red Sea and the same winds that can also be constructive to our atmosphere and to our economy. The wind is now being harnessed for energy.
