Time to Move On
Deuteronomy 1:6-8 (NIV)
6 The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain.7 Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighbouring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. 8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lordswore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”
For forty years, the Israelites wandered around in the wilderness for a journey that should have taken about eleven days. There were in the wilderness so long, I think that they couldn’t even imagine or dream of something positive coming up in their lives. God was telling them that they had enough time at this mountain and that it is time to move on to take possession of their own land. The people had to trust God and break free from the wilderness mentality.
I can’t look down on them as I have my own mountains and wilderness that I keep circling around instead of getting out. It could take years for me to experience victory over something that could have been dealt with quickly. All things are possible and I need to think of the dreams or goals that I want to possess. If I am stuck in a rut, God is telling me that I have had enough…it’s time to move on.
