The Straight Road
The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
Psalm 27:11 (NIV)
11 Teach me your way, Lord;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
I remember when I was in grade one and instead of writing free-hand, I was using a ruler for every letter because I wanted all of the lines to be straight. That process didn’t last long as it took too long to use a ruler for each letter and it wasn’t the proper way to write. If it was a poster for large letters, then using a ruler makes sense. Recently, I’ve been working in my backyard to build a foundation for my storage shed. If I didn’t do any measuring and just tried to do it by feel, it will not work. I could imagine the whole floor not being level and slanting to one side.
The way we live our lives requires that we go the ‘straight’ path. This implies doing our best to follow God’s teachings in the Bible and not being crooked in our attitudes and actions. I had to use a measuring tape and level for my project. For myself, I will have to ask God to teach me His way and to lead me in a straight path. Once He leads me, it is up to me to go down the straight path and not to deviate to another path of my choosing. God knows best and He has paved the narrow, but straight road for us.
