The Narrow Road that Leads to Life
Mat 7:13-14 (ESV)
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Jesus teaches us that there are two gates. One is wide and one is narrow. Which gate would most people, including myself would like to enter? I’m not the type who likes crowded places nor would I like narrow roads and pathways. Spiritually speaking, he is teaching us that the easy way through the wide gate leads to destruction. Many people enter through this gate. The few who want to find the way to eternal life, enter through the narrow gate, which is a tougher life.
Following Jesus is not easy. It will be difficult with decisions to make on your everyday lifestyle choices.
His example is showing us that few people actually will make it to heaven. As we know from Jesus, he teaches exclusivity. He says that he is the only way in John 14:6 (Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.)
He is implying that the only way to God is through Him and that all other ‘gates’ will lead to destruction. He was very controversial in his teaching and that is why the Pharisees wanted him dead. What is your thoughts and attitude toward a narrow gate that leads to God?
