The Living Dead
1As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
The pictures are everywhere on Facebook and other Social Media sites. There are many people who love to get dressed up for Halloween parties. They are not the kids who go out for candy, but adults who want to dress up and have fun with other adults. There were many people who dress up as certain characters, but the one that stands out are the zombies. Every year, there seems to be a remake of a zombie movie and yearly ZombieFests as some are fascinated by the living dead.
Paul says that we are dead and transgressions. When we are in our sinful state before the blood of Christ, we are the walking dead. We are like zombies in life, living according to the sinful nature of the world. As a zombie, we deserve wrath and the consequence of sin, which is death. God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive in Christ and it is God who has been gracious enough to save us while we were still sinners. We just need to accept the fact that only through Christ can we be raised to life spiritually. We no longer need to be the living dead, but we can be alive in Christ and live a life that is full of meaning.
