The Holy Spirit Speaks
11 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
When it comes to politics, the important issues of the constituents can go to the members of the local, provincial or federal member of the political party. They represent a riding or an area where they feel that they can relay the needs of their voters in that area to their political leader. Does it often work? It probably doesn’t work very well in this example for a political leader to speak for the needs of the people. The problem is that there are so many different needs and a politician cannot please everybody.
When Jesus was giving instructions to his disciples, he did warn them that they will be prosecuted, but they won’t need to worry about how to defend themselves. The Holy Spirit will teach them what they should say or do. God wasn’t going to leave his disciples as orphans, but provided the Holy Spirit as a tool to help them continue the mission that he started. I sometimes think that the Holy Spirit is at work when I don’t crowd out my spiritual life with so many distractions. After all, in Matthew 28, there is the great commission and how he promises to be with us to the end of the age.
