Spring Cleaning

2 Chronicles 29:35-36 (NIV)

35 There were burnt offerings in abundance, together with the fat of the fellowship offeringsand the drink offerings that accompanied the burnt offerings.

So the service of the temple of the Lord was reestablished. 36 Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced at what God had brought about for his people, because it was done so quickly.

How quickly can God act? Hezekiah was twenty five years when he became king and he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.  Hezekiah was a man of action.  In the first month of his leadership, he opened the doors of the temple of the Lord and repaired them.  He gave instructions to the Levites to consecrate themselves and consecrate the temple of the Lord.  They all went to work collectively to do some ‘spring cleaning’.  Anything that was unclean was taken out of the temple and carried to the Kidron Valley and disposed of.

In all, it took just 16 days after Hezekiah began to purify the temple before the whole service was re-established.  When we personally take inventory of our lives, we need to clean out the old and the unclean and throw it out to the Kidron Valley.  God can work when we decide to have a revival.  Hezekiah’s father, Ahaz was evil in the eyes of the Lord.  Ahaz shut the doors of the Lord’s temple and also offered sacrifices to the gods of Aram.  Hezekiah must have been heart broken when he saw what his father was doing.

It did not take long for Hezekiah to reinstate the worship of God in the Lord’s temple once he became king.  He must have had it all planned out, as it took only 16 days for it to happen.  God had a great hand in working through the Levites and through the leadership of king Hezekiah.  Despite his father’s evil ways, he still held firmly to the faith in pleasing the one true God.  Hezekiah cleaned up after his father, King Ahaz.  He brought rejoicing to all of the people as they were amazed at how quickly God brought worship back to the people of Jerusalem.  If there is something that needs to  be changed in your life, it doesn’t necessarily need to take a long time.
