Search and Rescue

2 Chronicles 16:7-9(NIV)

At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered them into your hand. For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.”

When disaster strikes and there is a need for emergency rescue, many cities or states will have a search and rescue team available as a resource.  The general field of search and rescue includes many specialty sub-fields, depending on the type of terrain.  There is mountain rescue, ground search and rescue, search and rescue dogs, combat search and rescue and air-sea rescue over water.

God’s people were always in need of rescue.  God has no issue in helping his own people whenever they get into distress and trouble from their enemies. Asa was a king who started relying on other kings.  He sent silver and gold out of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram.  God was not pleased with King Asa and sent a prophet to pronounce judgment on him.  In the past, God delivered king Asa from the hands of the Cushites who had a mighty army. God reminded king Asa that it was He who delivered them into his hands.  King Asa soon forgot it was God is rescues, gets upset at Hanani and imprisons him.  God is searching for those who are committed to Him and will strengthen us.  He is willing to rescue those who want to be saved. The question I need to ask myself is whether I will rely on God and let Him fight the enemy or try to fight the enemy on my own.
