Saved by Grace
Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
I remember those days in school, when I’m just waiting for the bell to ring so that I can leave for home. It rarely happens, but there may be a time when the teacher asks me a question and that is when the bell rings. It’s a popular phrase that you’re saved by the bell. This passage goes deeper than just being saved from an uncomfortable situation. In order to receive grace, we need to have faith. Even the faith we have in God doesn’t come from us. It originally comes from God who helped us in our faith. Otherwise we would boast that WE did the necessary work, research and build up our own faith to believe and to choose Salvation. Certainly, to learn about God, we do need to read and study and learn the basics.
Everything that we do in our daily lives depends not on our merit or abilities, but by God’s willingness to work in our lives by using His infinite power. Faith comes from hearing the word and the word comes from God. So it doesn’t matter how much I try to be good or to do the right thing. The credit will still need to go to God for salvation only comes through the faith in Jesus Christ and our faith ultimately came as a gift from God. God is generous and He can choose to give and take away from anybody He chooses. I am blessed that God has been generous and doesn’t limit the amount of grace that he offers.
