Remain in the Vine
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
I picked up a book on gardening, but couldn’t follow through on trying to work on vegetable garden. I watch as people shop for their tools and plan their own gardens. There is so much to learn, but you need to start somewhere. If you are planning to grow a certain vegetable, flower or plant, you do the research to find out the best soil conditions, the environment and the best way to care for it to allow it to grow.
Jesus says that he is the vine and we are the branches. It’s also pointing to the fact that God is the gardener. God knows what is best for us and he will prune the branches that are not bearing fruit. If we remain within the vine, we will be able to continue to grow and bear fruit. It means making a decision to stay close to Jesus so that we can stay healthy and not be a withered branch that is thrown away.
