17 “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.18 You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind; you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve.
This week has been a hot one and my son has been going to the swimming pool with his friends during the day to cool off. He would spend an hour or two and with the right encouragement, was going into the deep end with them. It was just last year during his swimming classes, that we saw him struggle swimming the length of the pool. He would swim for a few metres and then stop to hold onto the side. We wondered when he would get enough stamina and strength in his arms and legs to keep going. His comment was that it was hard to do the front crawl and doing the back crawl was much easier. After much practice, he is able to do the front crawl with no problems.
As adults, we live our lives and we understand that it is difficult as we need to juggle the demands of work, children and aging parents. We can add traffic, financial stress and relationship stress, and life becomes even tougher. God sees us in our struggles and certainly knows what we need to get through it. When we can go to God for His power and strength to help us through our journey, it doesn’t seem as tough anymore. Nothing is too hard for God. He knows all things and can do all things and is not there just to solve our problems. He is powerful and his power is demonstrated through our ability to navigate our lives and relying on Him on a day-to-day basis.
