Overflowing with Thanks
2 Corinthians 4:15-16(NIV)
15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
The Canadian Thanksgiving Day occurs today. It is about 5 weeks before the American Thanksgiving. It has been a Canadian holiday since 1957 to give people a chance to give thanks for a good harvest and other fortunes in the past year. When it comes to the American Thanksgiving, it is known as the heaviest travelling weekend and the start of the Christmas shopping season. Black Friday deals will be around after their Thanksgiving Day on Thursday. Regardless, there will be a lot of food being served this weekend.
The Bible says that when we are touched by God’s grace, it will result in people to be filled with thanksgiving. Once we understand that we cannot work or earn our relationship with God and it mostly God who works in our hearts through His word and His Spirit, then this is where we can be thankful. Once we start to forget that it is God’s work in our lives, we start to become ungrateful and our relationship with God can be strained. In all of our effort to clean, prepare and cook for the feast, let us not forget that we are doing it to spend time with our loves ones. Happy Thanksgiving.
