13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
A lot of hype occurred when the Powerball Jackpot kept growing into such a huge jackpot. Anybody who played would have been making their wish list of things to do with the freedom they will get when they win the jackpot. The gaming and lottery corporations are pulling in so much lottery players by marketing the freedom that you could have with extra money. Wars have been fought for our freedom.
Freedom was very different back in Jesus time from the freedom that we envision during our present day life. Many people back then may have been servants and were slaves, so they really didn’t have freedom to do what they wanted at all. The freedom that Christ brought was the freedom not to have to go through the rituals that were so common according to the Mosaic Law. A new covenant was ushered in and Paul reminded all of us to use our freedom to serve one another humbly in love. The freedom that we have through Christ isn’t to live for ourselves, but to be able to live as a servant of Christ.
