1 Corinthians 6:19-20(NIV)
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Yesterday was the last day of the Summer Olympics and it made me think of the time and commitment that these athletes spent to condition their bodies for peak performance to compete in the games. They could have argued that they want to sleep as much as they want, eat whatever they want and do what pleased them, however they listened to their coach or trainer so that they can stay on the team and have an opportunity to become a medalist.
The problem in the Corinthian church was that some disciples thought that they now have the freedom to do whatever they want. They no longer had to follow the legalistic ways of Judaism. Some used this as an excuse to be sexually immoral with the temple prostitutes. Paul reminded them that everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Jesus went to the cross for all of us and therefore our bodies were bought at a price. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we are to honor God with our bodies.
