Not So Famous
1 Corinthians 2:1-5(NIV)
1And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
This world is so captivated by the famous and the wealthy. If there is an appearance, some people will line up for hours to catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrity. This requires a lot of planning and resources as you need to make sure that you have the time off work or some friends to line up with. It could be hard to line up for hours by yourself, not knowing anybody around you.
Paul made the simple point that although many would consider him to be the greatest apostle and the best evangelist ever, he made the point that his wisdom and background means nothing and that his testimony wasn’t based on human wisdom or eloquence. Paul’s power came from the crucified Jesus Christ. Paul’s message and preaching came from the power of the Holy Spirit, which works in us as well. We don’t need to be very persuasive and wise with our words, but only to use our words as we let the power of God work with His Spirit.
