2 Corinthians 5:17-19(NIV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
Billions of people all around the world have celebrated that the New Year has arrived. There is a special feeling about starting new and fresh and this happens when the calendar year changes to a new year. We don’t celebrate too much when we have a new week or a new month, but a New Year gives us the opportunity to reflect and hope for the best in the upcoming year ahead.
As a Christian, I don’t need to wait until the New Year to make a resolution. Paul says that if we are in Christ, we are a new creation. We have been made new and as we mature and grow, we will make our mistakes, learn from it and move on. There is no point in waiting until the beginning of the year to start fresh. Sometimes, we creep and drift back to our old selves. When God’s Spirit works in us to repent and change, we don’t need to wallow in self-pity. God, with his grace and forgiveness, allows us to make a new beginning anytime we want.
