Love One Another
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Throughout the Old Testament, God encouraged the Israelites to love God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength. God continued to teach the Israelites that He loves them and that they should reciprocate in their relationship with God. The Israelites didn’t have a long period of peace as they continued to be raided or need to go to battle with their enemies. Some parts of the world are going through that situation where there is no peace and love for their fellow-man.
As Jesus walked on this earth, he demonstrated a principal that could be difficult for people to understand. We live in a world where it is easy to look after yourself first. Jesus is teaching us to love one another so that everyone will know that we are his disciples. This is in contrast where the rest of the world wants to retaliate against others. Others wanted Jesus to start a revolt and to bring down the Roman rule, but Jesus wanted to demonstrate his love for all people.
