1 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
I looked up some statistics from Ragan’s PR Daily and found that less than 2% of people have had any formal education on how to listen. 55% of the meaning of the words is derived from facial expression, 38% is in how the words are said and 7% is in the actual words spoken. Likewise in reading, only 2% of reading is visual. I guess if I’m reading some information in my mail or flyers, I would gloss over it unless something is compelling me to take a closer look. If it was just information on home renovations, pet-care or insurance, it would go into the blue-bin for recycling.
If there was a special price on an item that I would normally use, it would stop me in my tracks. I would look at it again and then plan out my week on when I could go out to get that item on sale. The Bible has 774,746 words in total. Some of these words I would gloss over. However, there are words about salvation that are very important. The Bible says we need to pay careful attention to these words so that we do not drift away. Drifting away represents going off-track in the direction you are going. In the days of the apostles, God testified to this salvation by signs, wonders, miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Today, we don’t have all of these confirmations, but we do have all of these miracles and wonders recorded in the Bible. Many have tried, but nobody has successfully proved the Bible wrong. This gives me more confidence in knowing that God’s promises are true and that Salvation is real, even though I may not feel like it on a daily basis. Listen and read carefully about God’s plan for salvation for mankind. It should stop you in your tracks more than any special price on a flyer would.
