He Understands Us
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
One of the needs of every human being, after physiological and safety needs, is the need to belong and to be loved. Part of that need involves being understood and not feeling that we are all on our own. People who are isolated from other human beings can go crazy. When we go through life and have temptations and fears, we are not alone.
The Bible says that Jesus came to earth as the High Priest and he is able to empathize with our weaknesses. We don’t need to hide our fears and temptations. We can tell God how we feel and Jesus understands because he’s been there and knows what it is like. I may think that there is no way that he can understand, but since he lived on this earth and had to persevere, the Bible says he was tempted in every way as we would be. We’re not alone in this Spiritual battle. Jesus knows what we are going through and we can lean on Him for strength. Sometimes we don’t understand ourselves, but God is in control and He understands us.
