Have You Not Heard?
21 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
23 He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.
24 No sooner are they planted,
no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root in the ground,
than he blows on them and they wither,
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.
25 ‘To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One.
I was at the grocery store when I clearly heard over their public announcement system for all cashiers to the front. The grocery store was very busy and the line-ups were long. They needed the extra cashiers to open up to alleviate the line-ups. I recall the times I was in the subway system and an announcement is made and you can’t understand what they are saying. When the subway is delayed, you want the announcement to be clear so that you can understand why there is a delay and when it will end.
If we want to know God, we won’t get a muffled voice coming from a loudspeaker. The Israelites were God’s people at the time and they heard and knew about God from the very beginning. God sits enthroned above the circle of the earth. There is none like God as He alone rules the entire universe. He is also sovereign and can bring down rulers he no longer wants to lead. For us, we just need to listen to God’s voice through the words in the Bible, if we allow it. I have heard about it, but if I don’t circle back and read from God’s words daily, I tend to forget that He is out there and will start to lose my gratitude for what He has done for me. Reading the Bible will help me to know God and that is only part of the process in which we can get closer to God.
