1 John 3:1 (NIV)
1See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
My son went to a friend’s birthday party this past weekend and will be going to another one this weekend. As a recipient, the birthday celebrant received many gifts and some gift cards. As a child, they look forward to the fun and the gifts that are given to them. As an adult, we don’t expect many gifts, but if something is given to us, we would appreciate the gesture. We would think it was considerate that somebody thought of us and gave us something.
God gives good gifts to his children. The biggest gift that God gives is His unconditional love. We don’t deserve it, but he lavishes us with His love that we should be called children of God. As a child of God, we are separate from the world and the world doesn’t understand God’s love. They don’t have that relationship with God that believers would. We have the opportunity to go to God in prayer and confide in Him, confess, share and even ask for God to intervene or to assist. The Bible says that He gives good gifts. God doesn’t always answers us for what we think is best for us, but He determines what we need. That greatest need is His love, which is demonstrated by the death of Jesus on the cross.
