Goodness is from God
3 John 1:11-12(NIV)
11Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. 12Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone—and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.
We told our sons when they were younger that they should be careful with who they select as friends. If they choose friends who have tendencies to do bad things, they could influence them in a negative way. If they choose friends who have been taught to do good and be respectful, it will have a positive influence on them. Even as they get older in the teenage years, peer pressure can be an issue and we do occasionally remind them about choosing friends wisely.
In our Spiritual journey, we can also be influenced by the world or by God. The Bible says that if we are from God, we will do what is good and not imitate what is evil. God is good, so we can only learn goodness from God and not evil. If we are distancing ourselves from God and letting Satan influence us, we will do what Satan is good at. He is only good at evil and that will be the result in our lives when we imitate the devil’s schemes.
