God’s Workmanship

Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

When we think of our abilities and what we are capable of doing at work, in our community, our family or neighbourhood, we need to consider that God already knows what we are good at.  The Greek word for handiwork is poiéma, which means a thing made or workmanship.  We are created beings.  It is God who created us and He wants us to make use of what we have been given.  God knows what we are capable of and He knows the ‘good works’ that we will be doing when we are tuned into God’s Spirit and do His will.  When we start to distance ourselves from God, we do not consider the good that we should be doing.

Jesus has prepared the way for us by his example of good works.  If we start to model our lives after Jesus, we can make an impact on other people’s lives.  We are God’s Handiwork.  We are not just artwork that just hangs on a wall, being idle.  We are living beings and we need to get off our feet and do something good.
