God is in Control
1 Samuel 2:6-10(NIV)
6 “The Lord brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. 7 The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. 8 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.
“For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world. 9 He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.
“It is not by strength that one prevails; 10 those who oppose the Lord will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven; the Lord will judge the ends of the earth.
We want to be able to say that we are in control and can make decisions in our everyday life. However, when we go out for the weekend to go camping or to the forest, we can see God’s creation and how we cannot control anything. We can feel the wind that blows and walk under the shade of the tree when the hot sun shines down on us. When we are out in nature, we can appreciate all that God has done for us so that we can enjoy the beautiful planet that we live on.
I live in a major city in which it is ranked as one of the best cities in the world. Housing pricing is soaring as many people continue to want to live in the big city. There is more wealth here in the big city than in some smaller nations in other parts of the world. You and I could be born under different circumstances and our lives would be completely different. It doesn’t mean that we are less joyful or grateful as the Bible does that that we should be careful to remember what God has done or we become proud and think that we are successful because of our great talent or skill. God is in control of all things.
