Gifts of the Spirit
1 Corinthians 12:4-11(NIV)
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
I had finished my annual work review a few weeks ago and I had to rate myself and put in comments as part of my self evaluation. I definitely had to put myself in a good light, of course, as I need to state what I accomplished. I still had to be objective and also write down areas of weakness where I needed to improve. Any Manager who receives a self-evaluation from an employee with perfect scores will definitely put that employee back in line to acceptable performance.
In the Church, every member has different strengths and different talents. It is up to each of us to identify what we are good at and how we can use our talent and strength towards God’s kingdom. This means a realistic self-evaluation and maybe some input from somebody who knows what you are capable of. Perhaps we are not the best at something, but we enjoy doing it and it will still contribute to the Church and to God’s people. We all have something to offer and should not be keeping it to ourselves.
