Forget the Past
18 “Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
It is almost the last day of the year and many people are thinking of the New Year. Unfortunately, we may have sinned and caused problems in our marriage, finances or in our family. Perhaps something happened out of our control such as a job loss, a death in the family or health issues. It causes us to have doubts of what is to come and if our situation will improve.
It is encouraging to know that we do not need to dwell in the past. God always provides us hope if we can trust in Him. When even the immediate future looks bleak, we need to persevere and look into the longer term. God sees the path we take and knows our future. This is where I need to trust God, even though it is difficult at times to do so. I can take a look at the example of Jesus and he persevered through his hardship in order to fulfil the promise of a relationship with Him and the hope of Heaven. God is preparing something new for us.
