Forecast is Accurate
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Every day when people wake up, they tend to turn on the radio or the news to find out the weather and traffic. We all want to know what to wear or which direction to take if there is a traffic problem on our commute. Sometimes I would check the day before for the weather, but traffic is a different story that can change daily, so I listen to the radio as I leave. Meteorologists are using more and more advanced technology to forecast the weather and sometimes they will get it wrong.
Jesus gives an analogy of how you know that summer is near when the twigs get tender and the leaves of the fig tree come out. He says that his words and the words of the Bible will never pass away. Earlier in this chapter, he predicts that the current generation will see his death and his resurrection. As he spoke these words, it was probably a mystery to most people. Now that we have the Bible, we can be certain of what is to come and the promises that will be fulfilled. God has proven himself time and time again when a prediction is made. This helps us stay faithful as God cannot lie and he is accurate about the future forecast.
