For Our Good
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
How great it is when all is going smoothly and everything is going your way. It’s easy to thank God for your blessings and to be grateful for your life. We would all say God is good and acknowledge that God is in control and is the reason for our success. We see blue skies and rainbows in our lives, hoping that we will avoid the storms and heavy hail.
What happens when we don’t have everything going out way? When we lose our job or we become sick? Perhaps there are minor issues that come up and all of these little daily issues add up until you become frustrated and angry. This passage can be difficult to accept. God works for the good of those who love Him. We think the opposite – if God works for our good, why should we face trouble and problems? Thank goodness that we do not know what God has in store for us. Perhaps we will see the good in the trials that we go through. Nobody could ever guess that something good can come from the death of Jesus.
