Ephesians 2:8-10 (NIV)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Christmas promotions are all over the place. Merchants want people to shop and any time that they promote free bonus gifts, it makes people stop. My wife loves the cosmetic promotions because they will provide a free bag and include some free smaller sized cosmetics. It’s the time of year when a shopper will wait for the promotion to take advantage of the freebies.
It’s great to get something for free. This reminds me of this scripture that salvation is also free. It is the gift of God. We cannot earn or work to get this salvation because it is from God and he gives it freely to those who really want it. We cannot boast that we did something to receive salvation. The chairs that I received for free were paid for when they were new. There is a price for everything originally. What is the cost of salvation? Well, the price is free for those who want it, but there was a cost. The cost was the blood of Jesus. He died on the cross and gave up his life as a ransom for our sake. When I think of the character of God, what comes to mind is his generosity. He is abundant and he freely gives.
