Finishing What You Started
John 17:4 (NIV)
I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.
If you live in your home, there are probably many of these things to be done. Your furnace, roof, windows need to be replaced. Or perhaps there is an upgrade that you would like for the kitchen or bathroom. When you live in a home, it will deteriorate and will always be in a constant state of repair over time.
If you have a goal to reach a certain weight this year, do you continue on that goal until you reach your desired weight or do we leave the goal unfinished?
Thankfully, we have a great example in Jesus who brought glory to God by finishing the work that was given for him to do. Did Jesus have any obstacles, opposition and struggles during his time on earth? He sure did have his share of troubles, so he can empathize with all of us. Although he was God in the flesh, he endured during his time on earth to finish what he started. He had a mission to complete the task of demonstrating and becoming the sacrificial lamb for those who will receive salvation.
God is giving you and I something to finish during our short life on this planet. He wants us to walk with Him on a daily basis and do His work. Many come to him with eagerness, energy and enthusiasm, but fall by the wayside during times of trouble. See the parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-23), as it teaches us that there are some who will get sidetracked by life’s worries or our convictions are not deep enough to hold root. There is one on this parable who was fruitful as they stayed faithful to God.
Another great example is the apostle Paul. Acts 20:24 (NIV) Paul’s life was worth nothing to him unless he finished the task of sharing the good news of God’s grace.
God has great plans for you. What has God inspired you to pursue with a strong commitment and determination to finish this year?
