Don’t Be Alarmed
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Jesus made a prediction about what was going to happen to Jerusalem and how the city will come down in ruins. He gives them an idea of when the destruction of Jerusalem will happen, but does not give any indication of when the end will occur. When we have natural disasters such as earthquakes, terrorism, volcanic eruptions, some of the fanatics will make their prediction that the end is now near. Repent now since Jesus will be coming back NOW.
Knowing the date of when Jesus will come back will definitely cause many people to put off following Jesus until the time is very near. Instead, the focus from Jesus is to watch out that no one deceive you. Deceivers will continue to come around as long as Satan does what he does best, which is being the father of lies. Natural disasters will strike, but we should not be alarmed by all that goes on around us and think that Jesus is coming back. The Bible says that we need to be prepared anyway and live to please God on a daily basis.
