Clothed with Humility
1 Peter 5:6-7(NIV)
5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
In sports, I appreciate the comments from the champion that it was a tough battle and they give credit to their opposition. The last thing we want to hear is somebody bragging that the competition is awful and that they could have won with one hand tied behind their back. Maybe that kind of commentary is seen in entertainment such as WWE wrestling. In professional sports, there is a respect for each other and an unwritten rule that you should not put down your opposition using your words.
God also feels strongly about those who are proud of their accomplishments. He opposes the proud and shows favor to the humble. He wants each and every one of us to clothe ourselves with humility toward one another. When you think of your clothes, it’s always on you when you are interacting with others. It’s about keeping your humility on all times just as you would keep your clothing on most of the day. One we humble ourselves, we can cast our anxiety towards God.
