But Not Destroyed
2 Corinthians 4:7-10(NIV)
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
I saw a new movie trailer on television the other night for the Rocky series. The movie is titled ‘Creed’ and it about a man who never knew his father, who was the heavy weight champion. Unfortunately, his father died before he was born and he finds himself training and going into the ring, carrying the weight of his father’s name on his back. He faces very tough challengers and tough obstacles to follow in the footsteps of his father.
Paul was a man who understood hard work. He also aimed at following in the footsteps of Jesus and had many challenges as well. He knew the treasure and championship that will be waiting for him if he perseveres and that is what he did. He had a mindset of never giving up and that even if he is crushed, hard pressed, persecuted and struck down, he was not destroyed. Jesus gives us the reason to keep on fighting for the prize that we are striving for.
