6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
I went to a bookstore the other day and browsed through the titles that caught my attention. There are a lot of books in the self-help section with some on relationships, parenting, self-esteem, confidence and spirituality. Some of these books will have a sticker on it to claim that it is a ‘Best-Seller’. Perhaps other books were recommended by Dr. Oz or Oprah Winfrey. When somebody recommends a book, there is a good chance it will become on the ‘Best Sellers’ List and that’s how the authors can become successful. They need to get recommended somehow to get a large following of readers.
The Bible is also a best-seller, but it doesn’t need any recommendation or mentions in a blog, web-site or television show. If we want to understand ourselves and how to improve as a person, the wisdom that comes from the Bible will have more practical information that we can use in our lives than any other so-called best-seller that is on the bookshelf. The Word of God is living and active and can help to mold us and steer us toward the right path that will lead to pleasant places and peace in our lives.
