Be Still Before The Lord
7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.
We live in an age where we want everything done quickly. The microwave oven is a great invention that saves a lot of time. Drive-throughs are very popular for fast food restaurants, but now I see more banks have drive-through ATM’s so that their customers don’t need to park and get out of their cars. People go on diets and will quit their program if they don’t see results quickly. Patience is a virtue that is lacking in some today as we want everything yesterday.
As much as we want God to answer our prayers and requests quickly, we also need to remember that God is sovereign and everything is according to His time. The Bible teaches us to wait patiently for the Lord and to learn to be still. This is not easy as I want to always be thinking of something or doing something all of the time. If you are on a bus or subway, you’ll notice many people looking at their device. Rarely do people make time to be still and especially to be still before the Lord.
