Back to Life
Ezekiel 37:6-10 (ESV)
6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling,[a] and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them. 9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
I have some plastic plants in my home. It’s there to decorate without the hassle of the upkeep. I do have some live plants as well. You know what happen when you ‘forget’ to water and fertilize the plant…it starts to wither and die. If the plant above the ground is dried up, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the plant is completely dead. Some of the roots are capable of holding some moisture and are just waiting for more favorable conditions before a bud on the root or crown will start to grow again.
Imagine when Ezekiel was given instructions to speak to a valley of bones. He spoke to the bones and they started to come back into form. Just as God had formed man out of the dust, God showed Ezekiel the amazing power He has to bring these bones back together with flesh and skin. The final part was to put breath and life into these lifeless bodies.
Like a parched desert that seems lifeless, situations in our lives could feel the same way when Ezekiel looked into the valley of bones and saw death. God does have a solution if we look towards Him. It may not happen right away, but God has shown that he can bring back to life what was once dead. If your marriage or relationship with your children or your career seems to be on life-support, it is God who can bring healing and life back.
