Alert and Sober Minded
1 Peter 1:13-16(NIV)
13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
Our minds are so powerful, but we only use a small percentage of its potential. We are surrounded by so much information and are so easily distracted by smart phones that keep us wanting to look at the latest update on our social media account. We have minds that wander and are multi-tasking so much of the time.
Peter attempts to bring us back to focus on one thing: hope on the grace that was given to us. Since heaven is not something that we can see, we tend to not think about it too much and think more of what is in front of our eyes. Even the angels wanted to know about this salvation that was bought by the blood of Jesus. We have something good happening in our lives if we have opened our eyes and have accepted the blood of Christ to wash our sins away. It’s why we’re encouraged to pray and read God’s Words on a daily basis so that we don’t forget to keep our minds spiritually alert.
