A Chosen People
1 Peter 2:9-10(NIV)
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
It’s great to belong and that is what we all deep inside want in our lives. We are social people and want to fit in or belong to a community. We can do things to build the community or to just be a spectator. As a spectator, we can be passive and easily walk away as we don’t feel any personal responsibility or ownership.
Spiritually, we have separated ourselves from our maker and have fallen into darkness in a fallen world. Peter says that God considers us a special possession. God went out of his way to bring us back to his family by sending Jesus to die on our behalf. We were not a people, but we became a people. We were part of the darkness, but God brought us out of the darkness and into his wonderful light. It feels great to be chosen and to be accepted as family.
